The Joys of a New Year, January 2012

January 2012 has been a blast! I have been able to be home with the boys more and I absolutely love it! I really don't have time to think about work or even miss it, but I am thankful for the two days that I get to spend in the environmental world so I can keep up with all the trends.

We had a few adventures this month. The photographs are not in order of when the events happened, but I think it will be easier to explain them as you scroll down.

Big Boy Bed
So we made the big step, out of the crib and into a big boy bed for Zayne! Yep, the boys got new mattress this month, YIPPPEEE! It has actually been pretty easy. Except for both of them getting out of bed and coming to sleep with me, which I don't mind. So we have decided that we are going to decorate their new room in a camping theme! I will be ordering bunk beds soon and one of my friends suggested a climbing wall. Yes, I think that will work. I am going to ask another friend if she would be willing to paint a big tree on one of the walls, so I can mount the climbing holds to a piece of plywood and mount on the wall. I am so excited about that idea!! Anyways, we will make a tent, somehow, out of their beds and hang a lantern from the ceiling or the bed for a reading light at night. I have even seen how to make a fake fire ... isn't that cool?!! The ceiling will be painted blue and we will stick glow in the dark stickers on the ceiling. In another corner I thought a window bench would be nice, but not sure yet, maybe bean bags. I found a fun green rug too. Then finally I was thinking a mini-picnic table ... for all their activities. Anyways, if you have any ideas or would like to send us some fun old camping stuff to put on the walls as decorations, PLEASE let me know!!

Hats
So as I was getting some filing done one morning, Zayne decided that it would be fun to play with my bra. I thought it was funny and tried to take a picture when he was wearing it like a hat, but this is the best I was able to get.
Zayne actually likes to put hats on ... he doesn't like it when the hat is a mask, he is very scared of masks. But hats are fun!

Mineral Wells State Park
Our main adventure this month was going to Mineral Wells State Park. We packed up the car with some friends of ours and drove about 2 hours west. This park is known in this area as the place to climb. So I knew there would be great places to explore! We found tons of rocks, caves, and places to investigate. After we explored and had a few tumbles we ate hot dogs, beans, fruit, and chips for dinner. There was an enclosed fire pit that we were able to make a fire while we ate dinner, it was very cool! Anyways, we drove around and found a swimming area and the camp sites looked very nice. It is a place we will be visiting again very soon! On our way home we stopped for ice cream!! It was a tiring fun day!!

Oh I almost forgot ... when we got home, unpacked, and was able to get Zayne to bed. I started helping Zachery get ready for bed, he was exhausted and really wasn't able to do much of anything. As I was taking off his shoes he sad, be careful mom (tears and screaming), "I step in a cactus". I still have no idea why he didn't tell me before now ... anyways, we got all the "stickers" out of his big toe. Poor little guy!! Not only did that happen, but he fell right on a rock when he was running down the walking path and really banged his leg.

Bath Time
So bath time in our house is a fun time to play in the water for about 30 to 45 minutes. Then after words they get to pretend to be the animals that their towels are, somehow Zayne is always the little duck. As he walks out of the bathroom (after wrapping him up) he will say "quack, quack, quack", it is the cutest little sight! Zachery is almost always the shark or dragon and most of the time is waiting for Zayne in their room. Anyways, I was able to get some cute shots of them together.

I am getting excited about the summer. We are able to sign the boys up for swimming lessons next month, March. I can't wait!!

Basketball
Basketball season is coming to a close, but I think Zachery had fun! He has definitely improved since the beginning of the season. When he is given the ball to bring down the court to his basket he likes to stop and try and dribble, which is so good!! But what I am most impressed with is when another kid asks him to pass it he almost always passes it to them. He is a very good defender and is able to get the ball pretty easily from other kids. Yes, he is one of the taller kids in the league.

Soccer season is starting and he get to play with his friend, so he is super excited about that. We have our last basketball game this weekend and our first soccer game! It will be crazy on Saturday.

Spaceship Building
One weekend we spend the weekend assembling a spaceship out of boxes. They made controls and tried to sit in the spaceship, but the boxes weren't big enough. I absolutely love their minds. As you can see, Zayne was very helpful!!

Puddle Splashing
It has finally rained here a few times!! As evidence of that the kids went puddle splashing. We went to a park with a friend, who has 2 boys the same age as ours, and they found these huge puddles! It was so fun to watch them run and play in the water, get completely wet and covered with grass!! After about 30 or 40 minutes I noticed Zayne was walking slowly toward me, like a robot and barely able to move. His little lips were shivering and he was saying in a cold, quite voice "Cold, hold me" over and over. It was so cute, you couldn't help but pick him up. Needless to say they took a very warm bath for a long time to try and get warmed up. But they had a BLAST!!

All-In-All
All-in-all this month has been great! Zayne is growing like a weed, talking more and more. He loves to talk on the phone, to anyone, but especially to his daddy. He wants to do school when Zachery is doing school. He has enjoyed coloring and playing with balls. He is an amazing soccer player already!! He can dribble like crazy!! He wants a bike so bad, so he can keep up with brother. Since the Zachery and the other neighborhood kids love climbing in the tree, Zayne wants to too. I have caught him several times trying to climb onto the limb that the boys and girls get on from our play set, he is tall enough now that he can reach. Oh my!! I truly love his attitude of not giving up and wanting to try everything! He is not only my independent little guy but he is my love bug too. Zayne's injury this month was from trying to balance on the outdoor big plant pot. Yes, he was climbing on the pot and trying to balance on one foot! He lost his balance and nailed his chin on the pot (thank goodness that was all). But I couldn't get the bleeding to stop, so I had to put a bandage on it (he didn't like that one bit!). No worries the scratch wasn't deep enough for stitches, just a bad spot.

Zachery is doing GREAT! School is going well, I think. We are still into Lego's and Star Wars. But it is interesting he doesn't want to sleep in his Star War sheets. Anyways, the camping theme will be good for both boys!! He has an amazing memory and we have enjoyed playing tons of games (we just purchased Battleship). I really enjoy him, both boys, but it has been fun to reconnect with Zach!!

Zach received his first Lego magazine this month and their was a building challenge. Build something that will help the Forest Police catch the robbers. Zachery built a Jeep. We sent it in to see if he will win a prize, we will find out by February 15th. I hope he wins, he would get $100. I thought he did a pretty good job!! He loves building!! He will spend literally hours with his Lego's and still plays with his Trio's, too.

Zachery loves playing outside and riding his bicycle with training wheels. He has started to take showers by himself now, washing himself. He has other chores that he is helping with now too. He might be a little young to understand about money, but he knows that he has to have money to buy more Star War Lego's :) So I am thinking about a weekly allowance, but still thinking about it, thoughts??
